Error when user without administrator rights attempts to activate Process Navigator

Symptoms:

When a user who is not a member of either the Power Users or Administrators group opens a newly installed version of Process Navigator 10.1.0, the following error is shown and Process Navigator will shut down.
 

Error Text:
A serious error condition has occurred. Process Navigator will exit. System.Security.SecurityException: Requested registry access is not allowed.

at Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey.OpenSubKey(String name, Boolean writable)
at Triaster.ProcessNavigator.Common.Activation.ActivationInfo.GetTrialActivationRegistryKey()
at Triaster.ProcessNavigator.Common.Activation.ActivationInfo.TrialLicense()
at Triaster.ProcessNavigator.AnalystEdition.mdlMain.Main()
The Zone of the assembly that failed was: MyComputer
 

Causes:

This is due to the user not having access to the Local Machine section of the Windows Registry. This is an issue with the Process Navigator software.

Workaround:
 
This issue is fixed in PN release 10.1.8.
 
There is a workaround for this issue which is detailed below.
  1. Log on as an administrator and make the user a member of the Power Users or Administrators group (this is a purely temporary measure to activate the software).
  2. Log on as the user.
  3. Activate Process Navigator.
  4. Log on as an administrator and remove membership of the Power Users or Administrators group. The user will now be able to run Process Navigator normally.
