Stencil is not visible when a map is opened

This article is suitable for a Process Mapper

Ref: 201204241208
Last Edited: April 24th, 2012

Symptom:

When opening an existing process map, no stencil appears.

Possible Cause 1:

It is possible that the file is not being saved with its workspace information. See 'Stencil does not save with Process Map' for more information.

Possible Cause 2:

If using Visio 2010, Visio may be configured not to display stencils.

Solution:

With the map open in Visio:
  1. Click the 'View' tab.
  2. On the ribbon, click 'Task Panes' > Shapes.

Note: There is a similar setting in Visio 2003 and 2007, but switching off the visibility of stencils doesn't persist in new sessions of Visio.
