If you have a customised properties and template file, the way to access these from within Process Navigator is as follows:
  1. Open a Process Navigator Visio process map.
  2. From the Visio menu, Process Navigator > Options.
  3. From the Options dialog, select the File Locations tab.
  4. From the Properties File field, browse to the location of your customised properties (.xml) file.
  5. From the Template File field, browse to the location of your customised template (.vtx) file.
  6. From the Stencil File field, browse to the location of your customised stencil (.vss) file.

  7. Click the Update button.
  8. Close and reopen Process Navigator.

Default File Locations

Please note that if you are working remotely, you may wish to save your customised properties, template and stencil files in the default locations.

Properties File (.xml)
C:\Program Files\Triaster\Process Navigator

Template File (.vtx)
C:\Program Files\Triaster\Process Navigator\Templates And Stencils

Stencil File (.vss)
C:\Program Files\Triaster\Process Navigator\Templates And Stencils

NOTE: Please ensure that you always rename your customised properties file and template file. If you keep the names the same as the default files (i.e. properties.xml and Mapping Edition.vtx), they will be overwritten upon any upgrade of the software.

Alternative File Locations

If you are saving your customised template file on a server, you will need to ensure that both the template (.vtx) and the stencil (.vss) are stored together. In addition, you will need to ensure that Visio is set to look at the alternative location.

Visio is configured to search particular locations for files such as templates and stencils. The configuration is user-specific, so, for example, stencils stored outside Visio's usual search paths may not be available to some users.

Visio should be configured to search where the Process Navigator stencils are stored.

NOTE: Different paths are separated by semi-colons.

Visio 2007

  1. Open Visio.
  2. From the main menu, 'Tools' > 'Options'.
  3. Click on the 'Advanced' tab.
  4. Click on the 'File Paths' tab.
  5. Add the path to the alternative folder, e.g. "M:\Triaster\Config Files", to the Templates and Stencils paths.
  6. Click OK to confirm the setting and close the dialogs.

Visio 2010 and Visio 2013

  2. Click the 'File' tab.
  3. Click 'Options'.
  4. On the 'Visio Options' dialog, click 'Advanced'.

  6. Add the path to the alternative folder, e.g. "M:\Triaster\Config Files", to the Templates and Stencils paths.
  7. Click OK to confirm the setting and close the dialogs.
