When a map is opened in Visio, it's opened as Read-Only. This should be apparent from the title bar of the Visio application window.

Possible Cause

The map file may have its Read-Only attribute set.

In Windows Explorer, right-click on the file > Properties.

File Properties

The file attribute may have been set directly, or have inherited that setting from a parent folder. The recommended solution is to set the Read-Only attribute on the top-level maps folder to FALSE (ensure the 'Read-only' box is clear), and specify that that configuration should apply to sub-folders and files when prompted. Then check that the attribute has been cleared from a selected map, and open that map in Visio.

More Information

This article offers further information on the Read-Only attribute of folders and files.

"You cannot view or change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, in Windows Vista or in Windows 7"
