Undefined Displayed when Hovering Over Shape in HTML

This article is suitable for a Library Administrator

Symptoms:
When viewing an HTML map in Internet Explorer 8, "undefined" is displayed in the tooltip text when hovering over a shape. The HTML will probably have been created in Visio 2003 or Visio 2007 pre-SP2.

Cause:
Internet Explorer 8 processes JavaScript (or JScript) differently from Internet Explorer 6 or 7, and it's the processing of a particular function that causes the problem.

Solution:
Create the HTML in Visio 2007 SP2 or later.
This function has been amended in the HTML output of Visio 2007 SP2, and the mouse-over text is as it should be.

Any publication server should be upgraded to Visio 2007 with the latest service pack. In addition, we'd recommend other available updates.

Note: SP2 addresses another issue with Internet Explorer 8 and Visio's HTML output.

Other users can continue to use Visio 2003. Further information on compatibility is given here.

Applies to:
  • All versions of Process Navigator
  • Internet Explorer 8
  • Visio 2003, Visio 2007 pre-SP2
