Triaster server pre 13.2 - Overview

In a typical installation, Process Navigator files that have been created using the Visio Stencil (.vdx) or Excel template (xls, xlsx or pre PN 11.1.10.xml) are stored the the '1 Draft maps', '2 Maps for review' and '3 Master' Folders. The correlation to the websites is that the Sandpit is sourced from a folder named '2 - Maps for Review' and the Live and Prelive sites are sourced from '3 - Master'.

Why is this? People often presume the following mapping:

1 - Draft Maps ---> Sandpit
2 - Maps for Review ---> Prelive
3 - Master ---> Live

The reason that the actual mapping is as follows:

1 - Draft Maps ---> No site at all
2 - Maps for Review ---> Sandpit
3 - Master ---> Prelive and Live

is so that it is guaranteed that before a Live publish takes place, the Live site will be identical to the Prelive site.

Publishing

Triaster's recommended best practice is that maps are reviewed in the Sandpit site by the map authors. This is done by placing the vdx or xls (xml in 11.1.0 and earlier) files in the '2 Maps for review folder' and then initiating a publish from either the Library administration page (with the correct user credentials to authenticate) or via a scheduled publish (if enabled on your system).

When the author is happy the map is ready for approval, it is then published to the Prelive site.

This is done by changing the URL in Internet Explorer from ..\<libraryname>\Sandpit\<pagename>.html to  ..\<libraryname>\prelive\<pagename>.html The Prelive site is used to gain approval. The actions contained in the Publication Checklist available in the Prelive site are performed, and once all outstanding actions are complete, the site is ready to go live. At this point, it is only necessary to publish the Live site, no maps need to be moved.

The Prelive site is meant to be an identical version of what will happen when the Live site is next published. It is the Quality Control and the Approval Control site.

If the Prelive site were sourced from a different set of maps to the Live site, it could not be reliably presumed that when the Live publish takes place, the publish is happening on the same set of maps that went through Quality Control and Approval Control in the Prelive site. This could very easily lead to situations where approvals had not been gained on maps that were published to the Live site. Publishing to the live site again involves changing the URL, this time to ..\<libraryname>\prelive\<pagename>.html

Triaster server 13.2 onwards - Overview

In a typical installation, Process Navigator files that have been created using the Visio Stencil (.vdx) or Excel template (xls, xlsx or pre PN 11.1.10.xml) are stored the the '1 Draft maps', 'sandpit maps' 'Prelive maps' and 'live maps'  Folders. There is now a 1 to 1 correlation to the websites and the source folders that contain the Visio files.

This set up has been established to support the automatic moving of Visio files on approval in the process library in a future release.
