Introduction

When browsing through a library, pages that have not altered are repeatedly re-fetched from the server. This creates sub-optimal performance from the users' perspective. The menu bar appears to reload each time an option is clicked.

Solution

Enable Content Expiration on the static html folder of the Library to expire every ten minutes. This is set from within IIS on the HTTP Headers tab and will mean that within a typical user session, the menu bar is not re-fetched from the server but is instead loaded from the local browser's cache.

The same technique can be applied generally throughout the library and this will enable faster loading of menu pages.

To force a refresh from the server prior to the ten minutes expiry, press F5 from within the browser.
