Introduction

This article outlines the steps required to install the minimum system requirements for a Triaster Server on Windows Server 2012.  Please note that this is only a guide, as every company will probably have their own minimum server requirements. This describes our requirements only.

Configuring Windows

Installing Internet Information Services (IIS) and its required Role Services

  1. Open Server Manager from the taskbar.
  2. Click 'Manage' from the top menu.
  3. Select 'Add Roles and Features'.
  4. Select 'Role-based or feature-based installation'.
  5. Select the destination server and click Next.
  6. Select 'Application Server', 'File and Storage Services' and 'Web Server (IIS)' to be installed.
  7. Expand 'Application Server' - .NET Framework 4.5 needs to be selected.
  8. Expand 'Web Server (IIS)' > Management Tools > All of the 'IIS6 Management Compatibility' and 'IIS6 WMI Compatibility' need to be installed.
  9. Click next through the rest of the wizard to install the roles and role services.
  10. Click close when the roles have been installed.

Installing Windows Search

Windows Search in Windows Server 2012 needs to be installed as a role service of the File Services server role.  The following instructions take you through installing the required components.
  1. Open Server Manager from the taskbar.
  2. Click 'Manage' from the top menu.
  3. Select 'Add Roles and Features'.
  4. Select 'Role-based or feature-based installation'.

  6. Click Next on the 'Select server roles' page.
  7. On the 'Select features' page, make sure 'Windows Search Service' is installed.
  8. Click next to take you through the wizard and close when the check is complete.

Note:

·         IIS is already installed, install .NET 4
- .NET 4 should be registered with IIS automatically

·         IIS is installed after installing .NET 4
- .NET 4 will need to be registered with IIS manually

Basic Software requirements

Visio

Please refer to the minimum system requirements page to find out which versions of Visio are currently supported in Windows Server 2012.

Microsoft Silverlight

Silverlight is not required in 16.4 or later.

Triaster Services User Account

The following instructions assume a local account with administrative privileges. If access to resources on another system is required, e.g. map files are stored on a separate file server, then a domain account would be more appropriate. This account would still need to be a local administrator.
  1. Open Server Manager from the taskbar.
  2. Click 'Tools' and then click 'Computer Management'
  3. Expand 'Local Users and Groups'
  4. Right click Users > New User...
  5. Enter the new account details.
  6. Untick "User must change password at next logon".
  7. Tick "Password never expires".
  8. Tick "User cannot change password".
  9. Click Create.
  10. Close the 'New User' dialog.
  11. Back in the 'Computer Management' window, select 'Local Users and Groups' > Groups.
  12. Double-click Administrators.
  13. Click 'Add...'.
  14. Enter the name of your new user.
  15. Click OK.
  16. Click OK.

  2. Click to open the 'Control Panel'.
