Procedure

The procedure applies to both Windows Server 2003 and 2008, although the activation CMD files need to be run 'as Administrator' on Windows Server 2008.

There are two components to activate: the Publication Server and the Improvement Workbench Server.
  1. Log on to the Publication Server.

  2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the 'PublicationWrapper' folder, commonly:
    "C:\Program Files\Triaster\PublicationServer\PublicationWrapper"

  3. If an "Activate Improvement WorkBench Server.cmd" (or similar) file doesn't exist, create one as follows.
    1. Open a new session of Notepad (or similar text editor).
Note: In Windows Server 2008, this will need to be run 'as Administrator'.
    2. Type the following command:
      "C:\Program Files\Triaster\PublicationServer\PublicationWrapper\ServerActivation.exe" /IMPROVEMENTWORKBENCHSERVER
(ensuring the appropriate path to 'ServerActivation.exe')
    3. Save the file as "Activate Improvement WorkBench Server.cmd".

  4. Run "Activate Improvement WorkBench Server.cmd".
Note: In Windows Server 2008, this will need to be run 'as Administrator'.

  5. In the 'Triaster Activation Status' dialog, click 'Enter New Activation Code'.

  6. In the 'Enter New Activation Code' dialog, click 'Launch Activation Server'.

  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to obtain an activation code.
Note: A server may not have Internet access, in which case, the activation URL generated on the server can be executed on a PC that does have such access, and the activation code obtained from that PC. It will still need to be applied on the server. Such an activation URL will be of the form:
    http://www.triaster.co.uk/activationserver.php?id=<Code>&product=<Product ID>

  8. Enter the activation code in the 'Enter New Activation Code' dialog, and click 'Apply'.

  9. If an "Activate Publication Server.cmd" (or similar) file doesn't exist, create one as follows.
    1. Open a new session of Notepad (or similar text editor).
Note: In Windows Server 2008, this will need to be run 'as Administrator'.
    2. Type the following command:
      "C:\Program Files\Triaster\PublicationServer\PublicationWrapper\ServerActivation.exe" /PUBLICATIONSERVER
(ensuring the appropriate path to 'ServerActivation.exe')
    3. Save the file as "Activate Publication Server.cmd".

  10. Run "Activate Publication Server.cmd".
Note: In Windows Server 2008, this will need to be run 'as Administrator'.

  11. Repeat the procedure described for activating the Improvement Workbench Server.

 Validation

  1. Run "Activate Improvement WorkBench Server.cmd".

The activation status should show as being current.

  2. Run "Activate Publication Server.cmd".

The activation status should show as being current.
